Captain

Job Duties:
The Captain is the company’s management representative on board the vessel and they are charged with the responsibility to support and protect the best interests of the Corporation in all areas of their job role.

The Captain’s over responsibilities include but are not limited to the safety of the crew and the safe operation of the vessel whilst at the same time responsible for protecting the owner’s commercial interests. The Captain has the overriding authority and responsibility to make decisions with respect to safety and pollution prevention. The Captain is expected to perform his or her duties in accordance with the Canada Shipping Act and Regulations, Canada Labour Code, Company Policies and Procedures.

This is a management position and is non-unionized.

Qualifications:

• Master Mariner (preferred) or Master, Near Coastal
• General Operator’s License (GOC)
• GLPA certificate (preferred)
• Ship Security Officer (preferred)
• MED training with respect to STCW Basic Safety
• MED training with respect to proficiency in survival craft and rescue boats other than fast rescue boats
• MED in advanced fire fighting
• Marine Medical
• Personnel with Security Duties

Skills, Abilities and Experience

• Minimum 2 years recent experience working on tanker vessels
• Experience with Safety Management Systems
• Excellent leadership skills
• Knowledge of English language is required

• 1st or 2nd Class Motor Engineer Certificate
• Specialized Oil Tanker Endorsement

• MED in advanced fire fighting
• Marine Medical
• Personnel with Security Duties

Marine Security and Administration Supervisor

Footprints is seeking a Marine Security and Administration Supervisor with a valid Marine Facility Security Officer (MFSO) certificate, or willingness to undergo MFSO training at Footprints’ cost. The Marine Security and Administration Supervisor provides overall supervision of maritime vessel security at a busy port in accordance with the Government of Canada’s Marine Transportation Security Act, and provides protection for personnel, information, and property.

Marine Security and Administration Supervisor General Responsibilities:

• Supervise a team of security guards in a busy port environment; • Provide highly controlled access control to a Restricted Area to a busy marine facility, including managing all pass and key fob control, distribution, and lost/expired keys and fobs; • Adhere to complex standard operating procedures of the site consistent with site and legislative requirements; • Responsible for prevention, surveillance, and protection of facility security; • Administration of all aspects of site security including considerable work with various computer programs, cell phones, radios, and other technology • Manage radio and camera repairs and maintenance • Manage extensive tracking systems for vessels in the marine facility; • Complete regular security training and orientations including site tours for site security; • Coordinator with safety drills and site evacuation in the event of an emergency; • Observe, record, and report activities and security incidents while on shift; • Conduct foot patrols, including standing and walking for long periods of time; • Provide exceptional customer service to clients and the public

Required Qualifications and Skills: • A valid BC Security Worker’s Licence is required; • A valid Marine Facility Security Officer (MFSO) certificate is required, or willingness to undergo MFSO training at Footprints’ cost; • A valid BC Drivers Licence with clean driver’s abstract is required; • Flexible availability; ability to work a variety of shifts including day, afternoons, and weekends. Occasional overnight and holiday work may be required; • Ability to obtain the Persons with Security Responsibilities certificate; • Strong supervisory skills with experience leading teams; • Exceptional computer and administrative experience, including but not limited to email, MS Office, Itrak digital forms applications, Entrapass and Avigilon software • Experience and proficiency performing camera surveillance using various software; • Experience in administering complex computerized key fob system ensuring enhanced security protocols are maintained; • Strong communication skills, both verbally and in writing; • Maintain a high standard of dress and deportment; • Physically capable of fulfilling duties of the job, which involves walking and standing for long periods of time; • Vigilance, attentiveness to detail, and alertness are required; • Familiarity with appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE) • Strong reporting and documentation skills; • A calm demeanor and sound decision-making skills; • Reliable transportation; • Fluency in English Job Summary Marine Security & Administration Supervisor Nanaimo, BC Posting ID: 2020-NAN-MFSO-01
